Description

“I travel to Kenya a few times each year to visit our family home and small community dairy there, often making botanical field trips or sourcing expeditions at the same time. One of my favourite stop-overs is the beautiful coastal town of Lamu, a world heritage site where tiny sandy alleys are filled with woodcarvers, beaders and painters. In a corner of nearby Shela village I came across a small duka (shop) selling these beautiful oil paintings. I liked them so much I bought these and brought them home in my suitcase!

Each painting is quite unique and depicts life on the Kenyan coast – from collecting fresh water to goat herding and tribal dancing. The bold use of colour and expressively fluid brush-strokes make these simple canvases a stylish addition to a kitchen or sitting room wall. I have one hanging in my study by my desk to remind me of these talented and hard-working people.” – Liz Earle MBE
