It is with happy hearts that we’ve been able to again provide some much needed funds to a project close to home, The Message Trust Eden project. They are achieving so much in Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd in Wales, one of the most deprived areas of the UK
It’s been a busy year for the team who have organized some wonderful events bringing the community together and providing a focus for disadvantaged youth and a purpose for the lonely elderly community. Over the summer, they organised a fun day for the whole community in the town, with 500-600 people enjoying all the attractions of the fair. The Eden team hired donkeys and gave free donkey rides which was a huge hit and a wonderful treat for the younger members of the community.
Eden continue their valuable work with the youth providing a safe and enjoyable space “The Hope Hub” for them to congregate. To encourage the young to attend they provide free pizza, ice-cream and drinks! In September, the team opened a homework club, a calm space for the youth of the community to come and complete their school work. At home there may be many distractions from either technology or family members and the hope is that grades may improve leading to more qualifications when they leave school.
In the New Year, The Eden team will start a weekly ‘Crafternoon’ club for the elderly. This will be held at “The Hope Hub” offering residents an opportunity to get out of their homes and meet other people whilst learning some as well as good coffee and tea with biscuits and cakes.
