During the summer Sarah and I travelled to Gorton, Manchester to visit Lianna, Steve and all at Choices Community Trust. We attended a Learners Celebration presentation and lunch, where the people who had completed both the CCT Basic Computer Training and Back to Work Skills courses received their certificates and celebrated their achievements.
It was fantastic to be able to talk to people who had completed their courses and hear about how it provided them with the essential skills in order to use computers from setting up email accounts to creating a CV. This increased confidence in using computers then enables them to use the Internet to find and apply for jobs, so they can use the skills and interview techniques from the Back to Work course.
These courses have been brilliant in putting people on the first steps to getting a job, empowering and preparing them to go back into the work place. This was shown through talking to those who had already applied for jobs, were preparing for interviews and had decided to work as volunteers in the local area.
However, the best part of the day honestly has to be seeing the pride and smiles on people’s faces as they celebrated their achievements and made their plans to go forward into the work place. I must admit that Sarah and I rather enjoyed the sandwiches too!
‘As a result of this learning I can now apply for jobs online, which I was unable to do before. The training course has also improved my confidence and I now feel able to progress to other training courses, as well as doing voluntary work in the community.’ Angela
